| 内容記述 | 本研究は歴史民俗学の観点から「魔の踏切」という言葉を調査して、民衆がいつから踏切の交通安全を日常生活に影響を与える社会問題として認識し始めたかを明らかにする。法律や公式文書に比べて、これらの資料は強い感情を持っており、恐怖や不安の感情から民衆の憂慮を発見することができる。 日常生活に影響を与える社会問題に直面した民衆は、何らかの解決方法を持っている。その解決方法の一つが、いくつかの踏切のそばに立つ地蔵である。本研究では、各地の市役所、区役所、図書館、民俗資料館の協力を得て、地蔵の文献資料を収集し、同時に地蔵の建立者や管理者と連絡を取り、聞き取り調査を行った。フィールドワークから、これらの地蔵は異なる名前を持っているものの、同じ機能を持っていることが分かった。これらの機能には、地蔵が本来持っている機能である死者の慰霊供養と、民衆が付加した、時代に応じた現世利益である事故防止、さらに石造物としてのモノの役割が含まれている。これらの地蔵は、日本の民俗文化において代々伝わる経験を表し 時代と人々の需要に応じて変化し、問題を解決する民俗文化を形成している。 以上の分析を通じて、本研究は鉄道事故という技術的側面だけでなく、民俗文化の中にもこの問題に対する独特の解釈が存在していることを示している。技術的な安全対策と並行して、民俗文化を通じて鉄道事故に対する人々の認識や対処方法が形成されている。また、鉄道事故に関連する民俗文化は、日本人が直面している社会問題に対して、以前の経験と現代の社会文化の背景を組み合わせて、問題を解釈または解決する手段や方法を見つけるという点で、現代民俗学の観点から見て重要な意味を持っていると考えられている。 |

| 内容記述 | This study investigates the term ‶demon crossings" from a historical folklore perspective to clarify when the public began to recognize the traffic safety of railroad crossings as a social problem affecting daily life. Compared to laws and official documents, these materials carry strong emotions, allowing us to discover the publicʼs concerns through feelings of fear and anxiety. Faced with social problems affecting daily life, the public has some solutions. One such solution is the Jizo statues placed near some crossings. This research collected documentary materials on Jizo with the cooperation of city offices, ward offices, libraries, and folklore museums, and also conducted interviews with the creators and managers of the Jizo. Fieldwork revealed that these Jizo, although having different names, share the same functions. These functions include the original function of Jizo, which is the memorial service for the deceased, accident prevention which the public has added depending on the era, and the role of the stone objects themselves. These Jizo represent experiences passed down through generations in Japanese folklore, changing according to the times and peopleʼs needs, and forming a folk culture that solves problems. Through this analysis, the study not only focuses on the technical aspect of railway accidents but also shows that there is a unique interpretation of this issue within folk culture. Parallel to technical safety measures, peopleʼs perceptions and ways of dealing with railway accidents are formed through folk culture. Furthermore, the folk culture related to railway accidents is considered to have significant importance from a contemporary folklore perspective, as it shows how the Japanese combine past experiences with the contemporary socio-cultural background to find ways and means to interpret or solve social problems they face. |
