| 内容記述 | Morihachi is the famous Japanese confectioner which has been in business for more than 390 years in Kanazawa, being a purveyor to the Kaga domain. Morihachi Morishita, the 12th head of the Morishita family, the owner of Morihachi, in the late Meiji Era was a local notable and wealthy which pursued not his private profit but public interest for the local area. He tried to form electric power company and railroad company in this local area. In parallel, he was a committed hobbyist. He was a collector of antique, and liked to write tanka poetry, Chinese poem, and so on. He also liked to play shamisen. His discriminating eye and skills for those were professional levels. As a result, Morihachi had declined. In 1911, the Morishita family transferred the business of Morihachi to the Nakamiya family, the relative of the Morishitas. In this article, we clarify the detail of Morihachi business based on new historical records and analyze the 12th Morihachi’s attempt to start up the businesses. Thereby we investigate the characteristic of investment in infrastructural business in local area in the Meiji Era, in addition to financial support to Morihachi business. They were not completed without investment and support by the network of former Kaga domain including Tokyo. |
