We developed the method of converting the victims' past experiences into the educational materials for the development of disaster-awareness in the society． This method consists of the following 4 steps; 1 conducting semi-structured interviews with victims of past major disasters, 2 reconstructing the episodes to reproduce the image of 'damage', 'Victims behavior in the process of life recovery from the disaster', 'Received support from the community and administration', 3 picturizing these episodes by professional artists, 4 making educational material combining the information about hazard and the extent of damage about the relevant disaster with the pictures of episodes． We applied this method to the 1945 Mikawa Earthquake, Japan, which caused more than 2300 casualties, conducted 20 interviews and produced educational materials including 130 pictures． |
