内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 This paper will focus on the architecture of chitei (an arbor by a pond) as a preliminary step, while being aware of Kamo no Choumeiʼs Hojoki as the final point of discussion. The Shinden-zukuri is known as the residence of nobility. Chitei was one of the buildings in the corner of Shinden-Zukuri. For scholars of the Chinese classics, it was a place of longing, a purely private space to enjoy a life of fleeting solitude and seclusion between busy political affairs. Therefore, it was a “space of relaxation” where Chinese poetries were often composed and where the games of kangen(wind and string instruments) were played. It was Imperial Kaneakiraʼs work Chiteiki that first took on this chitei as a literary subject. The author, Imperial Kaneakira, was once demoted from nobility and took the surname of “Genji.” Later, however, he returned to the Imperial Family and became the Imperial Prince once again. His trajectory resembles that of Hikaru Genji, the main character of The Tale of Genji. In fact, Imperial Kaneakira is considered to be one of the inspirations for Hikaru Genji. In his later years, the Imperial Prince built a mountain villa on the banks of the Ooi River in Sagano, a suburb northwest of Miyako, and enjoyed a quiet life of seclusion. In The Tale of Genji, it is said that Hikaru Genji also built Mido(a temple) in Sagano and lived there as a recluse in his later years. Hakurakuten, a Chinese poet, is one of the forerunners who lived an ideal life at chitei. Influenced by such poetries as Soudouki and Chijyouhen, the Imperial Princeʼs secluded life in Sagano was also a form of political protest. For Hikaru Genji, the main character of The Tale of Genji, Suma and Akashi were places of exile, and in relation to the Miyako space, Sagano was also a space with the meaning of a pseudo Haisho (a place of exile). The enigmatic way of life of the mysterious person Sagainkunshi told in a collection of narratives such as Goudanshou probably later developed into the Shuten-doji narrative. Utilizing the above as an auxiliary line, I will take particular note of the conflicting spatial characteristics of “light” and “shadow” that Sagano possesses.
