Hepburn and missionaries including David Thompson. ‶Schippeitaro\" is a story in the series. Originally, it was about a dog named Schippeitaro that defeats monkeys demanding a human sacrifice. In the field of study on fairy tales and legends, the story is categorized as a ‶monkey spirit conquest\" in which wicked monkeys are defeated by dogs. Yet in the translated version, monkeys were replaced with cats, which is not typical for old fairy tales. The cats dance, as is often seen in Kabuki and other folk tales, but are atypical in that they have long tails. The cat characters were created through communication between foreign translators such as Chamberlain and the wife of Thomas James and the publisher of the crepe paper books, Takejiro Hasegawa, based on Chamberlain’s understanding that Japanese people tend to dislike cats with long tails. In the story, dancing cats with long tails are used so that readers can easily see that the animals are phantoms. Dancing cats often appear in old Japanese fairy tales, and long tails symbolize things that are detested. In the translation, words like ‶hideous\" and ‶horrible\" are used, but such words do not appear in the illustrations of the story, because the book was meant for children. In fairy tales for children, dancing cats were common as visual symbols of phantoms.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_3_description_40":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_description":"Departmental Bulletin Paper","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_3_description_5":{"attribute_name":"内容記述","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_description":"論文","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_3_publisher_33":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"神奈川大学日本常民文化研究所 非文字資料研究センター"}]},"item_3_source_id_10":{"attribute_name":"書誌レコードID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"AA12407237","subitem_source_identifier_type":"NCID"}]},"item_3_source_id_8":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"1883-9169","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_3_version_type_16":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"小林, 光一郎"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Kobayashi, Koichiro"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2018-11-20"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"04 非文字年報8.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"2.4 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"04 非文字年報8.pdf","url":"https://kanagawa-u.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/8174/files/04 非文字年報8.pdf"},"version_id":"42239a9b-b03d-498e-9ddf-caada8547a8d"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"jpn"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"ちりめん本『竹篦太郎』に表れる「踊る猫」","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"ちりめん本『竹篦太郎』に表れる「踊る猫」"}]},"item_type_id":"3","owner":"1","path":["671"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2019-04-18"},"publish_date":"2019-04-18","publish_status":"0","recid":"8174","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["ちりめん本『竹篦太郎』に表れる「踊る猫」"],"weko_creator_id":"1","weko_shared_id":1},"updated":"2023-05-15T15:59:26.555748+00:00"}
