Such students usually tend to become too dependent on a bilingual dictionary, so that it becomes more of a hindrance than a help. This paper focuses on an analysis of the reasons why students should rely more on their own ability to guess than a dictionary, and how they may take advantage of this fact in extensive reading practice. It is necessary to realize that the acquisition of a word is not a rapid process but happens rather gradually.
