内容記述 The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on the life of children in early childhood in nursery based on the qualitative analysis of the observation record of 2-year-old children maintained by nursery teachers. The results show that childrenʼs life and activity in the nursery were different before and during COVID-19 pandemic. Before the pandemic, children went out of the nursery, walked to parks, and played with friends actively and cheerfully. After returning to the nursery, the children played continuously or drew pictures of fun experiences they had outdoors. There existed a continuity and relationship between the activities outside and inside the nursery, and the children engaged in them voluntarily because they wanted to do them. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the children were given opportunities to go outside. However, the play and activities were mainly walking, observing nature, and singing individually. In the nursery, children played in the narrow playground or indoors in small groups, but there was no continuity or relationship between each activity. Furthermore, many of the activities were set by nursery teachers and some were concerned with elementary school study curriculum. The COVID-19 pandemic has also affected younger children, but this was due to changes in the childcare content provided by nursery teachers. The care style shifted from fostering interpersonal relationships, independence, and self-direction through play to giving children instructions and allowing for individual activities, and parents welcomed them, especially when they were concerned about studies in elementary school. Regardless of public health or social issues, nursery teachers and parents may determine the strengths and negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on early childhood.
