Christopher Blauvelt, Reichardtʼs long-time collaborator and cinematographer, repeatedly employs compositions that isolate a single figure within the frame, often emphasizing the claustrophobic tension of the frame-within-a-frame technique. These aesthetic choices serve to underscore, in visual terms, the womenʼs disconnection from their surrounding environments.\n Focusing primarily on the filmʼs third segment, this paper begins by identifying the aesthetic and thematic elements that permeate the entirety of the work, while also drawing comparisons with the original short stories. It then turns to an analysis of how the film articulates the possibility of connection and the faint glimmers of hope that emerge between otherwise isolated individuals.
