| 内容記述 | In this paper, I examine Haruki Murakamiʼs short story “Tony Takitani”. This story is significant not only as a masterpiece but also because it explores the motif of the “box”, a recurring theme in Murakamiʼs work. Previous studies have interpreted “Tony Takitani” in various ways, often focusing on the protagonistʼs loneliness, particularly in relation to his wife and other interpersonal relationships. In contrast to these approaches, this paper centers on the motif of the “box”. In Chapter II, I analyze the “boxes” present in five key scenes of “Tony Takitani”, paying close attention to the charactersʼactions, positioning, and relationship to Tony Takitani. In Chapter III, I synthesize these findings and, through an examination of the text, explore the “true” sense of “aloneness” that Tony Takitani ultimately experiences, as shaped by the function of the “box”. |
