| 内容記述 | In this paper, I examine Yorozuʼs activities leading up to and following his graduation from Tokyo Bijutsu Gakko（ Tokyo Fine Arts School）. Although previous studies have classified Yorozuʼs career into three periods, I focus on the first period （1908―1914）. This study is based on Yorozuʼs essay, “My personal history,” in which he reflects on his artistic career. In Chapter 2, I explore and analyze critiques of the exhibitions Tetsugoro Yorozu participated in when he was a student at Tokyo Fine Arts School, as well as his graduation project. In particular, his graduation work, “RATAIBIJIN（ Nude Beauty）”（ 1912）, which was designated an Important Cultural Property in 2000, was controversial and seen as unconventional at a time when Tetsugoro Yorozu was unknown. In Chapter 3, I examine contemporary critiques of Tetsugoro Yorozuʼs works, particularly during the period when he was influenced by Van Gogh and Henri Matisse and joined the HYUZANKAI （Fusain Association）, a Japanese avant-garde art movement. Finally, in Chapter 4, I summarize this paper by reviewing the painting theory written by Tetsugoro Yorozu in later years. |
