Although American sociolo-gist Oldenburg?s “Third place”（1989） is popular, Japanese urban sociolo-gist, ISOMURA Eiichi （1903〜1997） had already initiated the study on the concept of “the third space” as the third social environment in the 1950s. To compare the third category concept of Isomura and Oldenburg, I will use the term “sphere” here, to accommodate both “space” and “place.” In a quadrant diagram of “the third sphere” with the axes of commerce/non-commercial and place/space, Oldenburg?s “third place” corresponds to the second quadrant. On the other hand, Isomura?s “third space” corresponds to almost the entire quadrant diagram. Isomura also uses “najimi” as the “place” that corresponds to the second quadrant.　Oldenburg points out that the third place was based on a male ho-mosocial bond, which has always been a male-only venue. Of course, women also build their networks, but they are not as “systematic” as the homosocial bonds of men.
