| 内容記述 | The ba-construction is a special construction in Mandarin Chinese, which contains various features that differ from the subject-predicate-object structure. That features are that the prepositional “ba,” which takes an object, is placed before the predicate, and the verb used for that predicate must be accompanied by an additional component, such as a complement or adverb. Furthermore, the thing referred to by the object of “ba” is always definite. Previous discussions regarding the definiteness of the object following “ba” were presented mostly from a pragmatic point of view. This paper argues that the definiteness of the object within ba-constructions is determined by its semantic relationship to the predicate. Additionally, predicate logic is utilized to elaborate on the semantic structure of ba-constructions and further clarify the reasons for the definiteness of the object. | |||||
