While there are a number of studies on Mongolia or China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, few have shed light on the Mongolian ger in Haixi Prefecture in Qinghai Province, where this survey was conducted. This paper focuses on the ger in Haixi Prefecture and examines the structure’s integral wooden parts, including their names, shapes and functions. It also analyzes the merits of the roundshaped dwelling’s geometrical features for the occupants using the internal space. Dividing the internal space of the region’s ger into four areas, it considers how each area is used. This analysis shows how the Mongolian people’s use of the round space maximizes its scientific benefits and how it is influenced by the natural environment and livestock farming in the region.
