| 内容記述 | Korea revised its medical laws in 2009 and established medical tourism. This paper focuses on support for medical interpretation in Busan, Korea, which aims to promote medical tourism and to clarify business initiatives and issues. The paper also considers how medical interpretation personnel could be secured in rural areas of Japan. Busan City covers a wide area, consisting of 15 districts and one county on the southeastern end of the Korean peninsula. Busan Port is Korea’s largest and plays a central role as an international trade hub in East Asia, and Busan is an international city. In Busan City, 400 people were registered as medical interpreters. The reasons the city has such human resources for interpretation are as follows. The interpreters are Koreans, but Busan City has many universities, including Busan University and Busan Foreign Language University, so it is possible to develop a workforce that is familiar with foreign languages. Traditionally, foreigners have come and gone through the port, and Koreans who have married Russians, Japanese people, and other foreigners have acquired the language of their spouse. Many doctors have studied abroad and are multilingual. | |||||
