Although it is unknown when this practice first began, there is no doubt that the beliefs occupy an important place in the spirit of the Ryukyu⊘Okinawa people. The same could also be said for the Ryukyu Dynasty court, with the importance of these beliefs revealed in the myths of the royal court and in the Omoro-soshi, a compilation of ancient songs and poems. The Ryukyu koku yurai-ki(1713), an official history of Ryukyu, records the existence of 929 utaki throughout the Ryukyu Kingdom. While the pattern of description varies between the Okinawa Islands, Miyako Islands, and Yaeyama Islands, it documents the names of the utaki, their locations, sacred names, and the deities they enshrined. The genders of the enshrined deities are not recorded for the on(utaki)of the Okinawa and Yaeyama Islands, but gender is specified in the Miyako Islands and many are pairs of male and female deities. Another characteristic is the scarcity of descriptions of the annual ceremonies of the utaki and their worshipers. The names of the deities of the Yaeyama utaki do not reflect their function ; instead, their names are created from words glorifying the deities, and there are many whose meanings are not understood. Yet the deity names are clearly based on the Omoro language and other elements, and a comparative study with the names of deities from other regions is a topic for further study.  Utaki share a common configuration. In their simplest form, utaki are comprised of an ibe (sanctuary) and a sacred forecourt and are structurally enhanced with the addition of a haiden (front shrine). With respect to the Yaeyama utaki, there is a progression from the ibe → area in front of the ibe → onyah(haiden) → myah or meh(sacred forecourt) → torii(gate) corresponding to a gradual transition and expansion in space from the sacred to the secular. Only women priestesses can enter the ibe.  Since the modern era, various circumstances have led the utaki to change in form. The transformation began with government authorities ordering modifications such as the clearing of utaki groves and a scaling down of utaki sites, and changes associated with the development of US military bases after World War II. At present, utaki face relocation and consolidation in many areas through urban planning and economic activities, some of which have led to the near-destruction of these sites. In this way, utaki beliefs have undergone one of the most radical changes in their long history and this transformation is closely connected to the present state of the Okinawan peopleʼs spirit.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_3_description_40":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_description":"Departmental Bulletin Paper","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_3_description_5":{"attribute_name":"内容記述","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_description":"招待論文","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_3_publisher_33":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"神奈川大学日本常民文化研究所非文字資料研究センター "}]},"item_3_source_id_10":{"attribute_name":"書誌レコードID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"AA12776889","subitem_source_identifier_type":"NCID"}]},"item_3_source_id_8":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"2432-5481","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_3_version_type_16":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"波照間, 永吉"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2019-08-30"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"02 沖縄のウタキ -その信仰・祭神・構造について-.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"17.5 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"02 沖縄のウタキ -その信仰・祭神・構造について-","url":"https://kanagawa-u.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/12662/files/02 沖縄のウタキ -その信仰・祭神・構造について-.pdf"},"version_id":"22efb501-c34b-4cbc-8edf-d05229d3279e"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"jpn"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"沖縄のウタキ -その信仰・祭神・構造について-","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"沖縄のウタキ -その信仰・祭神・構造について-","subitem_title_language":"ja"},{"subitem_title":"The Utaki of Okinawa -their beliefs, deities, and configurations-","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"3","owner":"10","path":["1239"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2019-08-30"},"publish_date":"2019-08-30","publish_status":"0","recid":"12662","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["沖縄のウタキ -その信仰・祭神・構造について-"],"weko_creator_id":"10","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-06-16T02:58:17.003442+00:00"}
