In this paper, I examine the correspondence of two-syllable Chinese verbs between Japanese (VN-suru) and Korean (VN-hada). Special attention is given to the ‘negative transfer’ in the correspondence of Chinese verbs between both languages. I found that there are eight types of negative transfers between two-syllable VN-suru and VN-hada. They have interfered with learners’ studying in both languages. It is necessary to consider effective methods to prevent these ‘negative transfers.’ However, a quantitative measure of the ratio of these Chinese verbs in the lexicon of the two languages has not been performed. I propose a five part methodology to address the urgent need for data on Chinese verbs based on vocabulary research.
