In this paper I illuminated the literary scene in early 1943. At this time, just before the start of the Pacific War, a literary man who was recruited by the Army and Navy and dispatched to the southern region returned to Japan and published various sentences(diary, reportage, novel, etc.). However, little research has been done on this subject. In Chapter I, I summarized the previous studies and presented the problem concerns of this paper. In the second chapter that follows, I first examined the remarks of literary writers who returned from the southern regions. In addition, I analyzed the contemporaneous evaluation of Shiro Ozakiʼs Choubohei, which is a topical work in the January issue. In Chapter 3, I analyzed the texts of various genres, published in February 1943, by writers returning from the southern regions. First of all, I arranged the comments of literary people in round-table discussions and essays, and then analyzed in detail the contemporaneous evaluation of Ashihei Hinoʼs Tekisyougun. In Chapter 4, after summarizing the analysis results of this paper, we present the elements that were required of literary writers at the end of the Pacific War.
